The May 2010 Kashmir Skirmishes were 2 separate, fierce gunbattles fought between the Indian Army and Hizbul Mujahideen militant rebels in the Kashmir region on Wednesday, 5th May, and two days later on Friday 7th May. 4 Indian troops were reported to have been killed, whilst 5 militants were killed during the battles.[3]
The first incident occurred on Wednesday evening, when militants attacked an Indian Army patrol, which killed 2 soldiers. On Thursday night, Police and Army Officials received a tip-off with information regarding the presence of militants in the Hapatnar Forests area. During the fighting, 2 more Indian troops were killed, however 5 militants were killed also, with patrols and searches continuing.[4][5]
